Asus have taken the EEE PC and improved the specification by enlarging the screen and increasing the storage capacity. A truly portable laptop with full functionality. It is pre-loaded with a customised version of Xandros, with a very neat 'Easy' interface making it really simple to use. It's capable of running several applications at once, for example word processing, browser and pdf reader.

Geek Alert: it's really easy to change the configuration of the EeePC to provide a full KDE desktop, and we provide a few notes to help you do this. The solid state disk filing system is set up in a Union file system, with the main system being read only, and user data being stored in a read-write partition. There is a Factory Restore option which will wipe the read-write part and restore the system to its original state: Just right if you're experimenting.

Please note that we provide a default install of the SUSE 10.3 boxed set, with no customisation. This will result in a very nice system on most Thinkpads (most of the SUSE developers use Thinkpads themselves). On a Lenovo 3000 you will find that some of the specialist laptop functions (eg hibernate function key) are not operational although the install is in all other ways perfectly satisfactory.
